I have a 2004 X5 4.4i BMW with 57,000 km (approx 35,000 miles). It's lightly driven and never done any towing. I bought the vehicle new, and have always had it dealer serviced. On accelleration, and decelleration, the transmission does a hard slam, feels like the transmission is falling off the car.
I recently bought a 2004 BMW X5 E53 3.0d. I can hear a vibration/humming noise between 2500-3000rpm no matter at what gear or speed I am going. It just makes this noise between these rpm levels. I don't notice any significant loss of engine power or acceleration at these levels. The engine seems to be working fine even the transmission.
Hi Mate Trans Fail Prog means the gearbox electronic gears from 1 -4 will not be selected by the main gear computer, BMW X5'S WERE BUILT WITH A FAIL PROOF GEAR ( 5TH GEAR ) when the gearbox components fail and trans Fail Progrm appears then the electronic gears 1- 4 shutdown and the car puts itself into 5th gear because it knows there is a problem.
While the E53 X5 was BMW’s first ever SUV, it now has seven, with an eighth on the way. Still, the original might be the best. Thanks to its well-aged looks, simple but elegant interior, and Today's video we are working on the transmission. We will do a filter and fluid change and service the seal and mechatronic system.Support a local band! https

I had a problem for some time with the gears not changing up when after driving for about an hour (Brisbane, Australia) on my 2001 X5 (E53). Often it would get stuck in 2nd and not change or would only change to 3rd at 80km and 4th over 100km per hour.
