If you think the 40mm fits better on your wrist, I'd go with that. I've never once thought that my 40mm is "too small" or doesn't display enough content. I've seen a lot of photos of thin-wristed people that got the 44mm and it looks like an iPad on the wrist or something. IMO not a good look.
